Cambodia Trip 2008: Day 8 - 11

Sorry folks! I have not been updating this blog and my travels for the last few days.

Just to sum up, the last few days were quite relaxing and nothing much happened. When we came back, we were busy doing up the the collage of paper cutting done by the children. The glueing was a bit sticky, especially we used water glue to do it.

Then we happily did the rest of our shopping and look around. Finally got to visit central market. Much nice than what I thought! Its much more different than Russian Market, which is more like a wet market in SG. Well, in a market, we must mai cai rite. So weitai and I bought quite a lot of stuff esp wetai and his scarf. LOLs.

Then for me I got a new wallet. Yays~ LV lor!! :)

Then we went to RTC Cambodia - the place when I bought the glaced mango, pineapple, papaya. And some jams - Rose and Apple Jam, pineapple and papaya. :) It is further down, off Russian Market.

Then also, last few days were rush. We had juggle the Love House visits and also helping the Methodist School in solving their computer problems.

One thing is that the Methodist people are so lucky! They have people using Windows Vista, when I am still on XP! zzzz.

Then it was JetStar back to SG. Chatted with a Malaysian lady who knows quite a lot of the orphanages and so on.

Back at SG, back to reality! Back to facing all the problems @ home. LOL

It is definitely a memorable trip. I feel that this trip was quite unprepared. Weitai kept prompting me for ideas. It is totally blank in my mind as I have not been there and do not really know what do they really need.

If I joined a yep group, it would have been more structured and more content. However, it will a different story altogether.

It was a good gateway out of SG. We were forced to be more independent and more resourceful. Thanks to Susan and Paster Philip for their endless help during our trip.

Cambodia Trip 2008: Day 5-7 (Vietnam 3days 2nights)

Well, decided to condense the 3 days into one entry. Stayed at "Godmother" - Bar cum guesthouse. (US$7 per pax per night)

The long rides to and fro Vietnam was terrible. Very tiring. takes approx 6-7 hours! When we came back, there was a jam at the jetty. It wasted more time...

Its cool that the whole bus sits on the huge vehicle while it moves us to the end of the river. We were fascinated by the Bus moving onto the vehicle.

Godmother is a nice place to stay. Food was good, service okay, cheap alcohol.

Day tour was quite boring and expensive. Chu Chi Tunnels was fun! + tiring. After the "ku chee" experience (pronounce as kuchee), for most of us, our legs are sore and tired. need the deep heating rub to help to heal the leg.

Ben Thah market was quite an expensive place, like need some good bargaining skills.

Massage at Ho Chih Minh was comfortable. But sleazy though.

Came back capitol tours and we ate at the capitol restuarant again lol. wt loves the mushroom fried chicken.

I hated the border restuarant. Expensive and dirty. And FULL OF HOUSEFILES. Hated them. Passing the border was ok, but need some time for them to call out the names.

Cambodia Trip 2008: Day 4

Woke up early in the morning to "save" time and do more things. Went to Tuo Sleng Museum and Russian Market. Was quite fun! Tuo Sleng was very serious and solemn, as it showed how sad the victims were and how they suffered.

Russian Market was fun! did some marketing and souvenir buying. Weitai was busily finding for the cloth shop he went the other time, to help his friends buy cloth.

Meanwhile, we realised there are some stationery shops which sell some materials that are helpful in accomplising our project. Bought some hard brown paper for our art and craft task.

Weitai, as usual, was craving for some massage. I kept teasing him about the Aspara Massage and the massuese xxx ying. LOL. Then we saw The City Spa! hahas... oops, if you thought of the Singapore City Spa, you are wrong, it is a massage shop like any of the rest.

We quickly hopped in while we were finding for this RTC Cambodia which sells jam, preserved fruits etc. Found out that it has moved to another part of Russian Market, slightly further down from Russian Market.

Then wt was so comfy after the leg massage. oh lala. lol. hahahahahaha

So it was back to the orphange and more fun with the children. Walked from the orphanage to our area! It is so smelly, dusty and smelly. It reeks of the motor diesel, petrol with sand flicking into our eyes everynow and then.

Solution: wore sunglasses and use wet wipes to cover my nose and mouth.

Then dinner was at 7 days BBQ, a korean restuarant recommended by Philip. LOL. So it was like we finally found Morning Cafe! YAY! LOL

The 7 Day BBQ food was nice! :) We were a bit shocked by the small dishes served to us. I was worried we had to pay for it. Well, it was covered, FOC, and no hidden cost as of the menu.

Results came out today. Was very disappointed with SM and MCOM. Why would adrian er give me D+? :( I worked so hard for the exam paper. :( And SM was a nasty shock although I knew my exam paper was not so well done. I thought B mahx, haiyo!! C+ :(

GPA like SHIT. hahaahahas. die la. uni is so far away from me. I cannt reach it@

Cambodia Trip 2008: Day 3

Back at orphanage again, after our simple breakfast of bread and jam. This time, it felt more familiar and I was happily distributing sweets, and also doing paper cutting with the children.

The paper cutting exercise was quite fun but it ended quite fast too. The kids quite like the task and they were expressing their creativity with the paper. some folded paper hearts, swan etc.

i find myself teaching them how to identify what they have, like their ear, nose, mouth, lips, eyebrows, eyelashes, hair clip, hair band, pants, shirt, blouse, skirt etc.

Went to Wat Phnom. Entrance: US$2. Quite boring la. but magnificent buildings. It is a very nice temple though. I think weitai enjoyed the Seeing Hands though. LOL. These people are blind, and they massage for a living... hmms. lol.

Well, went back to msc and out to find for morning cafe. Well this time was worst as we were venturing at night. This time was worst and find ourselves stuck near this place called Sarika Grill. A sms to Pastor Philip revealed we were on the wrong road all these time =.=||

Then we settled our dinner at Sarika Grill. The ambience was very nice and the toilet was fantastic. First time to see a toilet with an aquarium inside. And there is a towel for you to wipe your hands after washing your hands. Felt pampered! LOL

Cambodia Trip 2008: Day 2

Woke up at 8plus Cambodian time to see Aunty Susan. Auntie susan was quite concerned about our safety and whatevers. So we were tasked to make a photocopy of our passport and insurance plan.

Followed by some exploration of surrounding shops and places. Tried to find morning cafe. However, we could not find it :(. I was screaming that at the rate we are finding or walking, it will be afternoon cafe by then. We went to a photocopy shop to zap the things we wanted, and also venture around the shops nearby us. End up, we walked until the street very far down with no shops but only cars, roads and trees. We did a turn inside and ventured the backroad nearing the Philay school and some shops which sell petrol. After that we turned in, but we did a wrong turn and ended up in a road full of stones. Then after the next turn, we realised we are back at Methodist School. What a relief!

We went back and discuss how are we going to the orphanage. Then Susan helped us contact the in-charge to fetch us there by motorbike. Well, it was my first time taking a motorbike. Felt it was very fun. Very airy cause the bikes drive pretty fast. It was scary at the same time cause I was afraid i might fall.

Very soon, we reached there. Weitai looked really happy caused he finally get to see the children. I felt quite lost and speechless as it is my first time there. For wt, it feels like he comes back to see his relative. For me, i felt quite foreign. It took me a while before I feel more comfortable to mingle with the children and the young adults who seemed to know weitai pretty well. People like Senghong, Chanthy, Sopheap felt so happy when they saw him.

Got to know Sophea for the first time. Taught him some English. He was reading this book which I tried to make him memorise the words. Sophea is 15-16 years old. Just like a secondary school boy!

Later, left the orphanage in a Tuk-tuk to Methodist School. Asked the Tuk tuk to wait for us. However, when we were ready after telling Susan our schedule, we realised that the Tuk tuk left :(. Then we go to the Psar Muang Ang there to get a new tuk tuk.

The new tuk tuk was worst. Drove us to Russian Market when we wanted to go Orussey Market - Capitol Tours. Spent US$5 for no reason... =X We just bought a pair of shades and left.

Took another Tuk tuk to Capitol tours. Finally we are there! So relieved. We bought our tickets to Ho Chih Minh City and return tickets. We had dinner at the Capitol restaurant and decided to find Lucky Supermarket. The dinner was quite good. Weitai wanted this Fried Chicken with mushroom, which is actually sauteed mushroom with chicken. The term "fried" sounded like the chicken was deep-fried before it was stir-fried with the mushroom.

Walked there all the way and we got a bit lost. Luckily weitai asked a young motorbike driver for directions. LOL.

The Lucky Supermarket things are VERY expensive! The items price are more expensive than Singapore! The price are all in USD but it is the same price in SGD! For example, we wanted to buy this can of soup. The price is US$1.70, when in SG, it only cost SG$1.70 vs SG$2.38 =.=

Later it is back to MSC and some movie. I think I watched the cheerleading movie again? Hmmms

Cambodia Trip 2008: Day 1

Well, damn! Its a rainy day today - 11 March. I felt quite upset as I will be leaving Singapore on a gloomy rainy day. Forced myself to test to the maximum - I decided to take a bus and MRT to Changi Airport. Surprisingly, I managed to succeed with my extremely heavy baggage of 16++ kg.

Met up weitai and wenjie. Thanks wenjie for sending us off! Felt quite touched by his efforts to come changi airport.

Weitai and I went to check in. and then we realised we are overweight by 6kg. Have to pay $50 surcharge! I felt terrible as I keep spending money.

Took jetstar there. The plane was a bit jerky though. However, we were too excited to notice the jerk.

Reached Phnom Penh at 8.15 Cambodian time. We were looking for signs of people picking us up. Still no one. We got a bit frustrated and called Aunty Susan. Aunty susan helped us contact the key personnel of the Methodist School, Pastor Philip to fetch us to the school.

Finally he came and we heaved a sign of relief. Drove us to the methodist school, which was quite a sight for me.

We quickly unpacked and then has a simple supper - canned soup. while we watched 200 pounds beauty on my lappy. LOL

I realised something. I may have have brought many people together but I may not be the happiest person.

Coincidence

Read Chuan's blog and he once talked about coincidence.

I really feel that sometimes things just happen as what you have not expected.

But coincidences are really true.

How often you would be in school, taking a lift down to the ground floor and yet it stops at third floor and see a good friend you know?

How often you would take an MRT train and your best friend is in the same train and area too?

How often you would leave the MRT train and see your friend sitting on the bench right in front of you?

How often you could talk to your friend on the phone and suddenly you meet him right after a short conversation?

All these written here happened to me. :)
